Facility Overview

A museum that carries on the history of Saitama, from past to future

The museum was established as the Prefectural Museum in 1971 to mark the 100th anniversary of Saitama. In 2006 it was reborn as the Museum of History and Folklore. The museum celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2011.
The comprehensive museum covers history, folklore and art.The main theme of the standing exhibition room is the lifestyles and culture of Saitama's people.
There is also a special exhibition room with separately determined themes, and a seasonal exhibition room focusing on the spirit of the seasons.
There is also a Dreams and Experiences Plaza. Recognizing that the children of Saitama will be the bearers of history and culture for their hometown, the plaza offers a variety of hands-on experiences that are unique to the museum.

Highlights!

National treasures and cultural properties so beautiful they will leave you speechless

As an approved facility by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs, the museum regularly shows national treasures and important cultural properties.
Additionally, the museum itself was designed by the late Kunio Maekawa, one of Japan's most preeminent architects, and is itself a valuable piece of modern architecture.
